What happens when we commit to caring for our neighbors with radical hospitality? We change. Our community changes. The world changes, in God's image of love. Middlesex Habitat for Humanity is breaking ground for a two-home build on Summer St in Portland, CT on Saturday, October 24th, and will be scheduling work teams at the site throughout the months to follow. First UMC Middletown is targeting joining a work team that will be on site Saturday, November 7th. We will be coordinating with work teams from Wesleyan University, and we are inviting other congregations in the area to participate on our team as well. Building a home for a deserving family is a good way to bring God's love into the world; building two homes for two families, is a great way. One of these homes is being prepared for the benefit of a U.S. military veteran family in need. So, you'll be supporting people who have served our nation, also! The second unit's family is being discussed by the Habitat team now, and may possibly be a refugee family from a nation that has experienced destruction of homes in a war zone. This is not glamorous work, as most faith work isn't, but it is very important work. Every board that gets cut, every hole that's dug, every nail that's pounded in makes not just a house, but a home built with love. We hope that you'll consider joining us for this build - whoever you may be! See the additional information on this page for details. | How you can participate.
