Announcements:
This Sunday, June 21st will be Stefanie Bennett’s last Sunday present with us in worship.
There will be a Special Church Conference on Sunday, June 28th immediately following church service at 11:30 to set the new pastors salary, given that there will be a change in pastoral appointment July 1.
Sunday Breakfast – Join us for breakfast the second Sunday of each month at the Elk’s Lodge. Breakfast will next be served Sunday, July 12th. (There is no breakfast in June). A great breakfast is served downstairs from the ballroom, starting at 8:00 a.m. for just $6.00. Join us for fellowship and breakfast and then come upstairs to worship.
Shirley Lawrence, Chair of S.P.P.R., is available if you have questions about the appointment process and pastoral transition. You can contact her at 860-347-9687 or email her at sllawrence45@comcast.net.
Amazing Grace Donations can now be brought to church any Sunday. In addition to tuna and cereal, they are looking for donations of oatmeal, coffee and soup. The Missions committee will collect these items every Sunday and deliver to Amazing Grace. Please contact Marsha Judson with any questions at 860-346-0005.
The Coordinator of Rides to The Elk’s Lodge in Middletown is Jill Bennett. Please contact Jill at 860-345-7382 if you are in need of a ride to our new location.
We have a Facebook page! Help spread the word about the church by “liking” the church page and “sharing” posts. (http://www.facebook.com/pages/First-United-Methodist-Church/109638702407308).
‘Imagine No Malaria’: Just a reminder, if anyone has any ‘Imagine No Malaria’ boxes, please return them a.s.a.p. FUMC has raised an astounding $2,027.23, leaving us just $823.65 shy of our goal of $2,850.88. We thank everyone for their tremendous efforts! (If anyone has any “Peace With Justice” envelopes, there is still time to get those in as well). Thank you!

The Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee is pleased to announce that the District Superintendent, The Reverend Kenneth Kieffer, has named Barbara Marks as our new pastor effective July 1, 2015.
Pastor Marks is excited to share her passion for Christ with our Church community. Her focus is to help us establish a strong partnership as a caring and nurturing church community.
Barbara Marks is a Certified Lay Minister, experienced in Pastoral Care and Visitation. While serving at the Faith United Methodist Church in Branford, CT., she established a bereavement group and looks forward to bringing her gifts to our church community.
She has worked as the Director of Faith Formation and Curriculum and with the children of the church community, delivering the Sunday morning “Moments with the Children.” Barbara has presented and organized adult educational programs and multigenerational events.
- Barbara will serve FUMC in a three-quarter’s time position with us.
- She will not reside in the Parsonage but will commute from her family home in North Haven.
This will enable us to resettle the Church Offices in the parsonage, providing adequate space for the Pastor, Secretary, Accounting Staff and meeting space.
We have been fortunate to have had Stefanie Bennett as our Minister for the past few years. She has nurtured our spirit with her sermons and supported us through the challenge of selling our church building and helping us move forward. We wish her well in her new journey and thank her for bringing us thus far in ours.
Now we will prepare for the next phase of our transition and give a warm welcome to our new Pastor Barbara Marks. Pastor Marks’ first Sunday with us will be July 5th. Follow-up information will be provided as we move forward. Please feel free to contact me at 860-347-9687 or email me at sllawrence45@comcast.net with any questions.
