Our worship
Expect a mixture of the traditional and the unexpected at First UMC Middletown worship services, 10 AM Sundays.
Flexible, open, innovative, faith-filled. |
Our worship space is open, flexible, informal – and so are we. Come as you are, and come ready to have your minds and hearts opened to the Bible’s message of hope, healing and transformation in moving and creative ways. We earnestly believe that God changes life here through faith, and we hope that you come to experience God’s presence among us in Middletown at our worship services. Welcome!

Bible based, for today's real world. |
We sing joyfully, we pray earnestly, we share the story of God’s love at work in our lives, as we allow God’s Holy Spirit to unite us and to prepare us anew for lives built on faith in service to God. Our sermons by clergy and members illuminate the Bible with insights that bring it to life in today’s world, in plain language that stimulates our thoughts and moves our hearts.
|
Children and youth activities. |
Children have a time for a special message during the service, and then are invited to join Bible studies and fun activities. Afterwards, we have fellowship time with refreshments to get to know one another, with no pressure on newcomers, but a warm welcome for those who would like it. We all pitch in to help make our worship services successful, in the spirit of joyful service to God.

Communion invites the Holy Spirit. |
Through our United Methodist traditions, our communion services on the first Sunday of each month invite the presence of the Holy Spirit in all who come to participate in this holy shared meal, continuing the tradition begun by Jesus at the Last Supper on the night before his crucifixion. Communion unites us with the love of God in Christ that conquered the cross and the grave, and with the fellowship of Christians around the world who profess faith in Christ. We use unfermented grape juice for the communion cup, and, as needed, gluten-free bread, so that all may participate in this grace-filled meal in the presence of God.
