Summer sermon series: Our Favorite Hymns
What We Say When We Sing

Thank you to all of you who participated in the survey to determine our congregation's favorite hymns. There were 34 members and friends of our congregation who responded. The votes have been tallied and the winners are...

Here I am Lord
How Great Thou Art
Amazing Grace

Following those top three are In the Garden, All Hail the Power of Jesus Name, Faith of our Fathers and For the Beauty of the Earth. In all 62 hymns were recorded, the majority were the favorite of just one or two people.

I'll start speaking about the meaning behind each of these hymns on July 1.

July 1            Here I am Lord
                     God's Call and Our Response
July 8            How Great Thou Art
                     The Impulse to Praise
July 15          Amazing Grace
                     Grace in All its Forms
July 29          In The Garden
                     Knowing Jesus and Being Known
August 5       Faith of our Fathers
                     A Great Bequest
August 12     For the Beauty of the Earth
                     In Praise of Creation
August 19     Come O Thou Traveler Unknown
                     Untold Possibilities

Each hymn that was submitted will be sung at least once in the next year. Thanks for all your help with this project.
I look forward to seeing you and signing with you throughout the summer.

In hope and confidence,
Stefanie Bennett

Dear Member and Friends,

One of the most significant ways we express our faith is through music. Hymns have been a vital part of Methodist life and worship from the earliest days of the movement. And of course Charles Wesley wrote many of our most cherished hymns. John Wesley even wrote specific instructions directing Methodist how to sing - which are still in our hymnal.

What are your favorite hymns? Which of our songs move you and draw you close to God? I want to know! I am conducting a survey. Please tell me your favorite hymns, up three selections for each of us. I will use the hymns that make the “Top Ten” as a starting point for a summer sermon series. And every hymn that is submitted will be sung in church within the next year.

Please submit your [up to] three favorite hymns by June 1 to the church office or to me by email [stefanielbennett@gmail.com] (don’t forget the l between Stefanie and Bennett) or place the list in the offering plate on a Sunday morning. Then in July and August I will preach on the ways in which our favorite hymns express our faith.

In hope and confidence,

Stefanie
