We have a good assortment of items already at the parsonage, but we could use more to make this event a big success! Help your items ready for a new home to find their new owners. Please contact Jill Bennett or the church office for dropoff. The tag sale will be at the parsonage 8.30AM-2.30PM.

You've been rummaging around your attic and garage (at least in your mind, hopefully!), and thinking about what you can bring to be sold at our September 17th Tag Sale, 9AM-2PM. Well, we definitely will appreciate your donations, and also an "all hands on deck" effort to make the event a success. Please contact Jill Bennett to sign up for some of the important tasks that are before us:
He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. ~ Mark 6:8 We say we want a good spiritual life, but then we look in the closet, the attic, the garage, and...oops, busted.
Your clutter can serve a good purpose for others, and help to free up your heart and your spirit for the rewards of faith that we're called to receive by Jesus. On Saturday, September 17th, 9-2PM, we will hold an event at our 221 Ridge Road parsonage that focused on a tag sale. Yes, it's a fund-raiser, but it's also an opportunity to reach out to our community as they come there. We will need:
Thoughtful and careful work by our Board of Trustees on options for purchasing land for a new church building was presented before an all-invited Church Council meeting this Sunday at our parsonage/office. Three potential properties for purchase were presented, along with a discussion of additional rental options.
After a discussion of their potential value for our mission, the Church Council voted unanimously to pursue one particular parcel that looks to be quite promising as a new location. The vote authorized the Board of Trustees to present an offer for purchase, pending reports on the feasibility of construction from an engineer, and from other experts and authorities. We will not disclose the location publicly while we are evaluating it for potential purchase, but members are encouraged to be in touch with John Parent, Church Council Chairperson, Debbie Camp, our Lay Leader, or Pastor Barbara Marks for further information on the Church Council meeting that voted for this action. The Board of Trustees will take the lead in this effort to move our congregation forward towards new growth and service. Our faith train is moving!
Members, friends, and neighbors of First United Methodist Church, Middletown had a wonderful time on Saturday, October 24th, as we celebrated and blessed anew our property at 221 Ridge Road, currently in use as our church office and outreach center, and for many decades the parsonage for our congregation. Pastor Barbara Marks blessed the home, using a 1940-era Book of Worship, alongside Connecticut District Superintendent Ken Kieffer and the many people in attendance. The home has been decorated very tastefully inside, with modern colors and fixtures complementing the classic designs of an American home, and highlighting some of the beautiful furnishings that are a part of our legacy. We are excited to be bringing this property into new service, and so very grateful for our trustees, for the construction team, and for everyone who contributed to the success of this great day through setup, food, fellowship, and cleanup.
